CHARITIES AND VOLUNTARY SECTOR
People working within this sector can work on an unpaid voluntary basis or ‘in-house’ as an employee of the organisation. Likewise, the salaried or unsalaried employment can take place in Ireland or abroad – thus offering opportunities to travel. There is usually strong competition for the relatively small number of permanent (salaried) positions, and while a degree in any subject is acceptable, often, relevant experience is more important than a specific qualification.

Administrators can often be key employees within this sector and requirements include: good interpersonal ability, IT expertise and administrative skills. Fundraising is usually a professional rather than a voluntary role within most such organisations.
